I am an artist and art instructor living in Benicia, California with my photographer husband Jon and my sweet dog Ziggy.
My work is varied and changeable. I enjoy nature illustration, painting with acrylics, watercolor, and pastels. I adore constructive paper arts, collage, assemblage and mixed media. I believe that a creative person can turn anything into a work of art, including dinner, decor and life itself. Art is magic.
I have been creating and teaching art for most of my adult life. Currently I am retired from a life time career in Early Childhood Education. I am actively involved with circles of artists in my community and globally online. I teach regularly from my studio here in Benicia and at a paper arts studio in Berkeley called Castle in the Air. I continue to pursue my development as an artist through daily practice in my home studio.
Although I do not hold a degree I have pursued educational experiences on my own terms. I took many studio classes at Rhode Island School of Design when I was in my twenties. I’ve attended numerous workshops and classes throughout the years from local artists. I am versed in quilting, art doll making, puppetry, mixed media art, drawing, painting, calligraphy, bookbinding, and digital arts.
I have studied with Mary Jo Koch, a nature illustrator and painter. I have studied with Gillian Cox Smith, an artist from Scotland, and I’ve learned bookmaking and calligraphy by studying with Alice Armstrong from Berkeley. I have also taken numerous online art classes and workshops. I have deep gratitude for all my teachers and students who have taught me how to conduct myself as an artist. I am truly blessed.
Not directly related to art, but in my case, highly relevant. I am a certified Dream Worker and studied with the late Jeremy Taylor, founding member and past president of the International Association for the Study of Dreams.
